The Emotional Labour of Public Library Work

This study seeks to extend the research on emotional labour of public library workers. Because is a relatively new concept in and information science research, researchers practitioners need better understand experiences front-line workers libraries. A qualitative survey was distributed electronically one Canadian province. Participants described meaningful connecting with customers, but also identified major challenges performing customer service work. Results showed that facing display regulated emotions ingrained training often conflicts inner emotions. The inability reconcile opposing perceived limited administrative support affects individual enjoyment work their personal well-being. report exhaustion burnout as outcomes labour.
